we hungry

Located in SoHo near the E and R trains. It is called 32 because it only seats 32 people. For some reason, it's packed! I recommend that if you do want to come here to make reservations. The regular patrons must know what to order. I came here with three others. I ordered braised short ribs. Hmmmm, I love it when the meat slides right off. It had a sprinkle of vegetables on top that had a Chinese flavor (fine with me!). The entree also had a side of mac n cheese, which is a total failure but I can't blame them because I'm sure they don't focus their energy on perfecting that. However, upon reflection, I would not come back to this place for a $29 dish. Although the braised short ribs tasted good, I was not satiated because I left hungry. I'm not a terribly huge guy but there is something wrong when I leave still hungry!  I picked this place originally because I read reviews that it had great burgers, but for some reason, I did not even order it - probably because the ambiance of this restaurant was sophisticated to the extent that it deterred me from eating a burger. I should never let that happen again. Lesson to stay true to yourself.

To add to John's entry, I (Lili) ordered the Roasted Cod fish, caramelized onions, swiss chard with a Gruyere Broth. Say whaaaaa?? I only recognized 2 out of the 4 items from my dish so I was in for a surprise. I'm always up for the challenge of trying new flavors and food, so I couldn't wait! When the dish came out, they poured the hot gruyere broth over the cod fish, the swiss chard (which taste like spinach! now I know...haha) and this brown toast thing with caramelized onions... I thought that was odd.
The cod was good but lacked flavor. I couldn't comprehend how a toasted piece of bread with caramelized onions would tie well with the cod fish and swiss chard. The broth just soaked the toast and made it completely soggy. I was literally eating wet bread with fish. How appetizing? Not! If I was a judge on Top Chef, I would have sent this dish RIGHT BACK and slap the chef for creating an awful dish! Grant it, I did finish the whole damn thing because 1) I was hungry 2) the portion was small and 3) this was $25! It was the Asian in me... I had to finish every last bite. LOL

On a snowy Sunday afternoon, nothing beats a good burger. We had the idea to come here courtesy of my brother who saw this place on the Food Network. With over 10 different kinds of burgers to choose from, this place seemed like it was the spot. Not only do they have burgers, they also serve up other comfort foods, i.e. mac n' cheese.

The burgers here were OK... I have had way better burgers in NYC. For $10+ for a burger, I'd say take your money else where. The mac and cheese was not appetizing. Very dry and not much flavor.  However, their toasted marshmallow milkshakes were the best. Superb if you will. Want a chance at dying happy? This is the place to go for shakes.

There are two locations in America and they are both in the Dallas area. Kellers is reportedly in the top 5 best burger category. This burger joint is a true testament to living in Texas and what we, Texans, are about - gettin big...getting real big and damn proud of it. Whhoop. As the saying goes, Everything's Bigger in Texas. Not sure if that's copyrighted...anyway, if you want ultimate grease with your cheeseburger and onion rings, go to Keller's Drive In. They use buns with poppy seeds. Better yet, you can bring your own brew. Usually, 40s are the way to go for a place like this.

Matt's Bar has been around for over 50 years and is the home of the JUCY LUCY burger. I've lived in Minnesota my whole life and have never been here until a few months ago. And I have to say, this place has one of the best burgers ever.

Picture
So what makes the JUCY LUCY burger special? CHEESE ooooooozzzes out of the burger. Talk about a dream come true! The burger is perfectly seasoned and definitely not dry, hence the name JUCY LUCY.

P.S. if you are hungry, definitely order 2. 1 does not do its justice.

The menu is short and simple! And the prices are cheap too!

McCormick and Schmick's Seafood Restaurant is well known for their fine dining, fancy gourmet dinners and their high-end prices. However, come 3:30pm to 6:30 and 9:30pm to close, ALL bets are off. M & S is the place to be. Nothing on their happy hour menu is more than $4.95 and the portions are huge! The best deal on the menu is the half pound burger and french fries for $2.95! A big mac meal at McDonald's runs for $6+ in Manhattan. So you are definitely gettin' your moneys worth at M & S.
They also serve Fish Tacos, Spinach and Artichoke dip for $1.95!!!!! A $1.95!! Its unbelievable.
A $3.50 drink minimum is required per person in order to receive the happy hour menu price. That's no biggie, considering these dishes at regular price cost an arm and a leg.

For people, looking for cheap DRINKS, I don't recommend coming here. Cocktail drinks are overpriced here. They do have beer and martini specials on certain days. Check out the happy hour menu for pricing.

Now, I can't take all the credit for finding this place. My friend, Pieter, actually introduced me to this place back in my hometown Minnesota (GO VIKES!!). It was our favorite place to eat with friends because we were broke and hungry. haha

Nothing beats New York food, however, Minnesota has New York beat in this category. Minnesota's happy hour menu changes constantly! I've had delicious Mahi Mahi cakes, Crab cakes, Turkey and Gravy etc.
SO, don't expect the menu to ever change in NY. Try M&S in other states because their menus are all different.
